A&M tightens grip on Auburn

COLLEGE STATION — Danni Williams scored 20 to reach 1,000 career points, the nation’s top-scoring freshman, Chennedy Carter, added 23, and No. 14 Texas A&M beat Auburn 78-59 on Sunday for its 11th straight win in the series.

Williams became the 30th A&M player to reach the mark. Courtney Walker (2012-16) sits atop the club with 1,989 points.

Jasmine Lumpkin chipped in 10 points for Texas A&M (18-6, 7-3 Southeaste­rn Conference), which was coming off an 82-67 loss at No. 12 Tennessee on Thursday.

Auburn is 0-5 all-time in College Station.

Napheesa Collier scored 25 points and Kia Nurse added 23 as the top-ranked Huskies beat the Bearcats in Hartford, Conn., giving Connecticu­t its 150th straight win over an unranked opponent.

Brittany McPhee scored 31 of her careerhigh 33 points in the second half to lead the No. 24 Cardinal to an upset of the sixth-ranked Ducks in Eugene, Ore.

McPhee had the last 19 points for Stanford (16-8, 10-2 Pac-12), which shares the conference lead with Oregon (21-4, 10-2).

Reserve Ciani Cryor matched her season high with 16 points, nine in a late 12-0 run, and the Scarlet Knights upset the No. 13 Wolverines in Piscataway, N.J., to end a four-game losing streak.
