Carlisle lauds latest pickups

-

With the Rockets set to sign center Brandan Wright once he clears waivers, they can only hope to get the player the Mavericks had when he was cutting to the rim in Dallas. Wright had the most productive seasons of his career when playing for the Mavericks, averaging 8.3 points and four rebounds while making 64.4 percent of his shots in four seasons with Dallas.

“He’s a premier finisher on rolls,” Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. “He’s been a little banged up the last couple years, but when he’s been healthy, he’s still elevating, getting up there, has great hands. He can make free throws. He’s just another weapon.”

The Rockets will also sign Joe Johnson as a free agent. The Kings on Sunday offiically announced they had waived Johnson, a day after the Grizzlies announced that Wright had been waived.

“I think signing him and Johnson, two really potent signings this time of year,” Carlisle said. “Houston, they’re loading up. They’re right there. It’s an exciting time for them.”
