MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Teddy Allen scored 16 points, giving No. 20 West Virginia a needed spark off the bench in an 82-66 victory over TCU on Monday night.

James “Beetle” Bolden added 14 points, Daxter Miles Jr. scored 13, and Wes Harris had 11 points for West Virginia (19-7, 8-5 Big 12).

Desmond Bane had 16 points, Vlad Brodziansk­y added 15, and Kouat Noi scored 12 for TCU (17-9, 5-8).

TCU twice closed within five in the second half but went without a field goal over a crucial four-minute stretch, and West Virginia capitalize­d with a rare strong finish. The Mountainee­rs outscored the Horned Frogs 15-7 over the final three minutes.

TCU is fighting for its first NCAA Tournament bid in 20 years, but it’s been that long since the Horned Frogs have beaten a ranked team on the road.

NORTH CAROLINA 83 NOTRE DAME 66

Theo Pinson scored 14 of his 16 points after halftime to go with 10 rebounds, helping the No. 14 Tar Heels pull away late to beat the Fighting Irish at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Joel Berry II added 21 points for North Carolina (20-7, 9-5 Atlantic Coast Conference), which closed a tough stretch with its third game in five days. The first two were emotional rivalry wins, the first coming at home against Duke and Saturday’s coming at North Carolina State.

This time, UNC needed a 13-0 burst in the final 5½ minutes to finally get some separation against a team that just kept hanging around.

Guard Dennis Jones hit seven of 10 two-point shots while scoring 22 points to lead the Panthers to an overtime victory at home.

Virginia rose a spot to sit atop the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time since December 1982 despite an overtime home loss Saturday to Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers (23-2) earned 30 of 65 first-place votes to outdistanc­e No. 2 Michigan State and rise above the turmoil that included last week’s top three teams all losing. … Andy Kennedy announced his decision to step down as coach at Mississipp­i, effective at the end of the season. Kennedy, who took the Rebels to two NCAA Tournament­s, has a school-record 245 wins in 12 seasons but is 11-14 this season.

Women CONNECTICU­T 69, LOUISVILLE 58

Katie Lou Samuelson scored 26 points, and the top-ranked Huskies used an early run to beat the No. 4 Cardinals at Storrs, Conn.

Napheesa Collier added 14 points, and Gabby Williams had 12 points and 15 rebounds for Connecticu­t (25-0), which won its 76th consecutiv­e home game and ended Louisville’s 13game road winning streak.

Louisville (25-2) scored the first three points before UConn rattled off 19 straight.

TEXAS SOUTHERN 66 GRAMBLING STATE 56

With second place in the SWAC on the line at the H&PE Arena, TSU emerged victorious behind Joyce Kennerson’s game-high 25 points. The Lady Tigers’ victory put them a halfgame ahead of GSU.

Taylor Robinson produced 11 rebounds for TSU (14-9, 9-3), which enjoyed a 53-29 rebound edge. Shakyla Hill collected 17 points for GSU (12-11, 9-4).

TSU led by as many as 20 points in the final minute of the third quarter. Grambling, whose largest lead was four points, outscored TSU 21-11 in the final quarter.

Shala Dobbins led the Panthers to a home victory with 29 points.
