LAWRENCE EDWARD ARON
1941-2018
Lawrence Edward Aron (Larry), known by friends, clients and family as “Captain Larry.” Larry was born in Houston on January 13, 1941 and passed away on February 19, 2018.
Larry will be remembered in Houston & Clear Lake for his genuine friendships across the entire lake with so many customers he called friends. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. His word was always his bond. Larry was in the first graduating class at Bellaire High School in 1959. He earned and became an Eagle Scout in Houston’s first Jewish Boy Scout troop led by his father, Dr. Alfred Aron.
Larry attended the University of Houston and then joined the Air Force. He volunteered & enjoyed raising money for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Larry was a man of many skills, from owning his own T.V. repair stores, then learning the plumbing business from the ground up whereby becoming a huge success while mentoring many others in the industry. Larry then followed his true passion; he started his own Captain Larry’s Boat Service doing what he truly loved to do.
Larry is preceded in his death by his parents Dr. Alfred Aron and Hilda Aron. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Myers Aron and his daughters and son-in-laws, Suzanne (David) Slavin and Stephanie (Trey) Weiss, grandchildren, Tiffany (Richard) Cortez, Sidney and Samantha Weiss, siblings, Don (Sue Sue) Aron, Debra (Leonard) Setzer, Sandy (Michele) Aron along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his former wife, Bonnie Bloom Platter.
Larry Aron will be remembered in many ways: The Fonz, Grumpy, Uncle Larry, but always as an honorable man and friend. For the past nine months many wore their blue, Team Larry bracelets to support his cancer journey.
Memorial contributions may be directed to MD Anderson Hospital, Congregation Beth Israel or to a charity of your choice in Larry’s memory. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 22. 2018 at Congregation Beth Israel Memorial Garden, 1101 Antoine, with Rabbi David Lyon and Rabbi Jimmy Kessler officiating.
