Baylor hammers cold-shooting OU

WACO — Terry Maston scored 23 points, and Baylor beat cold-shooting Oklahoma 87-64 on Tuesday night.

Maston made his first career start on senior night, his 102nd game played for the Bears, and made the most of it with a 10-for-14 shooting night despite being saddled with three fouls in the first half. Baylor (18-12, 8-9 Big 12) shot 51 percent as a team and controlled the boards, 44-29.

Trae Young scored 18 to lead Oklahoma (17-12, 7-10), but that was a far cry from the 44 he dropped on the Bears in their first meeting. Young, the national leader in scoring and assists, had five assists and eight turnovers.

TCU 66, KANSAS ST. 59

Kenrich Williams had 16 points and 11 rebounds in his final home game for the Horned Frogs, leading TCU to its first four-game conference winning streak in 20 years with a victory over the Wildcats in Fort Worth.

The last four-game league winning streak for TCU (21-9, 9-8 Big 12) was in 1997-98, when it went 14-0 in the Western Athletic Conference under Billy Tubbs.

Ja’Quan Newton hit a running 30-footer at the horn to help the Hurricanes upset the No. 9 Tar Heels in a wild finish at Chapel Hill, N.C.

ARKANSAS 91, AUBURN 82

Daniel Gafford had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Razorbacks over the No. 14 Tigers in Fayettevil­le, Ark.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 78 RHODE ISLAND 48

James Demery scored 21 points, and the Hawks stunned the Atlantic 10 champion and No. 17 Rams in Kingston, R.I.

Women TEXAS 79, OKLAHOMA 66

Brooke McCarty and Ariel Atkins celebrated their senior night by scoring 17 and 15 points, respective­ly, helping the No. 7 Longhorns beat the Sooners at Austin in the final regular-season game for both teams.

Texas (24-5, 15-3 Big 12) is 104-30 since Atkins and McCarty joined the program.
