Sue Ellen Reese, 71, of Katy, TX, passed away peacefully March 3 after battling cancer for three years. Born Nov. 4, 1946 in Butler, PA to Harold and Louise Kurtz. She graduated from Bulter Area Senior High in 1964 before obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount Union College in Alliance, OH in 1968. She began her teaching career in Euclid, OH and later married David Reese. They relocated to Houston, TX in 1982 where she continued in her elementary education career at Grace School, Alief ISD and Katy ISD. After retiring, she continued as a private tutor.

An avid musician and world-traveler, she sang in a world choir tour while in college and participat­ed in choir trips with Grace Presbyteri­an Chancel choir to Salzburg, Austria and Coventry, England. During her lifetime, she visited over 40 countries and all 50 states. She also was active in Bible studies, Presbyteri­an Women, Bridge and Bunco.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 20 years, and sister Carol Lynn Kurtz. She is survived by her two sons Bryan Reese (and wife Tonya) of Austin, and Michael Reese (and wife Elizabeth) of Katy, by her three grandchild­ren Natalie, David and Christophe­r, who were the love of her life, and by her sister Marilyn Ruff (and husband Greg) of Alliance, OH, along with many extended family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Memorial Hermann Hospital and all her friends who supported her during her fight with cancer. The family will receive visitors 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at Forest Park Westheimer. A graveside service will be held at Forest Park cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Friday March 9 with a memorial service at Grace Presbyteri­an Church at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music ministry at Grace Presbyteri­an Church.
