Venus gets win over sis Serena

-

Venus Williams defeated younger sister Serena Williams 6-3, 6-4 in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Calif. — her first victory in the sibling rivalry since 2014.

Serena, 36, who returned to the court this week for the first time since giving birth to her first child 14 months ago, still leads Venus, 37, in their series 17-12.

Roger Federer rolled past No. 25 seed Filip Krajinovic 6-2, 6-1 in pursuit of a record sixth BNP Paribas Open title, while Sloane Stephens remained mired in her post-U.S. Open slump.

Stephens, the 13th seed, lost to No. 20 Daria Kasatkina of Russia 6-4, 6-3, and fell to 2-4 in matches this year.
