Boys

Dylan Johnson, Splendora

Notable: The senior lefthander tossed backto-back no-hitters during a six-day span of spectacula­r pitching. Johnson struck out 12 and walked one against Beaumont West Brook, and he struck out 13 against Baytown Lee.

What coach Chase Reneau said: “We’ve had some good guys come

through here, but I don’t think I’ve seen anything this dominant. He’s striking out guys regularly and keeping them off the base paths so well. It’s one of the best runs I’ve seen.” Other nominees

Chad Allen, Lutheran South: The junior hit a grand slam and a threerun homer, going 3-for-4 with nine RBIs against Friendswoo­d. He also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored in a 12-4 win over Kinkaid.

Paul Babalola, Kempner: The senior captain supplied a key goal in a 2-0 win over Travis, helping the Cougars bounce back from a loss to rival Clements and clinch the District 20-6A title outright.

Jamal Bieniemy, Tompkins: The Oklahoma-bound guard scored the final four points in overtime in an 80-76 win over South Garland in the Class 6A state semifinals. He finished with 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting, with seven rebounds and four blocks. Jason McDaniel

Girls

Courtney Day, Dawson

Notable: The junior ace allowed five hits while striking out nine in a 1-0 victory over rival Pearland. She also had two hits.

What coach Katelyn Welch said: “Courtney did an outstandin­g job and worked out of a lot of jams. ”

Other nominees Yadi Grimaldo,

Waller: Grimaldo had four goals and two assists in victories over Huntsville and Magnolia West.

Charlotte Merdian, Montgomery: She went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in a 9-2 victory over College Park.

Skylar Parker, Tompkins: The sophomore scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-0 win over Katy.
