SAMIR MATTI AL-JAZRAWI

1935-2018

Samir Matti Al-Jazrawi passed away peacefully in his home at age 83 in Richmond, Texas on Friday, March 23, 2018.

He was born on January 17, 1935 in Baghdad, Iraq. He worked for the Iraqi government as a translator and surveyor in engineering related work. He attended College in England and received his Civil Engineering Degree in 1961. He worked for Proctor and Gamble in Libya and also worked in England, Germany and Morocco.

In 1969, he moved to Houston, Texas and was offered a position with the Highway Department. In 1974, he cofounded Century Engineering Inc. He worked there for over 35 years until he retired.

He is preceded in death by his father Matti Hanna AlJazrawi, his mother Fadialh Haddad, his brother John Jazrawi, his sisters Evelyn Jazrawi, Janeit Jazrawi, and Samira Waterdrinker, his nephews Louay Nacy, Manhal Nacy and niece Zina Jazrawi.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Kathryn Ann Armstrong of Midland, Texas. His daughters Joy AlJazrawi and Gina Al-Jazrawi Nelson. His grandsons Laith Nelson and Fount Nelson and numerous nephews and nieces which he loved dearly.

Sam had a generous and kind spirit and was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Schmidt Funeral Home East Avenue Chapel, in Katy, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Bill Bartniski reciting.

Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1416 George Street, Rosenberg, Texas 77471, with Rev. Bill Bartniski, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Katy Magnolia Cemetery. Lunch will be served after the graveside service.
