1963-2018

-

The light in our lives, Dorothy Elizabeth “Zabet” Haas, 54, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, the 1st of April, 2018, after a long, courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. Zabet was born on the 25th of August, 1963 in Houston, Texas, to William Orin Williams Jr. and Amy Lee Williams.

She is survived by her husband Mark Edward Haas, daughter Natalie and son Nicholas. She is welcomed into Heaven by her loving parents; her grandparents Richard Leon Lee and Mary Lillian Isom Lee, Dr. William and Clifford Grace Williams, Sr.; and her eldest sister, Deborah Prosser. Surviving siblings are her sisters Sharon West and husband Jeff West, Nanci Lee Fiske, Rebecca Kenney and husband Robert Kenney, and her brother John Williams and wife Gaby Williams. She is loved and remembered by her father-in-law, Fred Haas; mother-in-law, JoAnn Haas; brothers-in-law: Steve Haas and Jeff Haas and wife Donna; nieces and nephews: Jessica Burford and husband Mike, Amy Prosser, Gareth Lee Fiske, Harrison Kenney, Joss Kenney, Bryan Haas and wife Kelli, and David Haas and wife Angelica; as well as great nieces and great nephews: Madeline and Anderson Burford, Jaydn Calderon and Braydn Evans, Cooper and Charlotte Haas, Carson and Blake Haas.

Growing up with her five siblings, Zabet enjoyed a childhood filled with love, laughter and devotion to family. In 1982, Zabet graduated from Northbrook High School where she was a talented musician, playing the flute in the school’s marching band and at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. After attending Sam Houston State University, she worked in the mortgage banking industry. In 1984, Zabet met Mark Edward Haas, her true love with whom she would spend the next 32 years enjoying life’s blessings of loyal friendships and loving family. They loved traveling around the world together as well as creating amazing memories with their precious children. They welcomed Natalie in 1998 on Zabet’s birthday, and Nicholas in 2001. Zabet was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, constantly going above and beyond for everyone in her life. Being a mom was her greatest passion in life, and she was the best a mom could ever be. She supported her children in all they did and was their biggest fan, literally and figuratively. Loving and kind, considerate and caring, Zabet had many friends from all over that she dearly treasured. She was always ready to provide a helping hand. Zabet was an active volunteer of The Junior League of Houston, National Charity League, Heroes and Handbags, and her children’s various school functions. Throughout Zabet’s life, she faced numerous, serious health issues that challenged her physically and created uncertainty. Each time, she continued to amaze us by maintaining the most positive attitude, fighting like a warrior and managing to keep her children’s lives normal, all the while constantly putting her faith in God’s hands. With each prognosis, she beat the odds, holding onto life and to those she loved. Whatever Zabet did in her life, big or small, she did with love and goodness, from the bottom of her heart.

We will miss her warmth, her silliness, and the unconditional love with which she filled our hearts and souls. Our family gives thanks and eternal gratitude to Zabet’s loving friends, her longtime soul sisters Lorri Lugrin and Janelle Reid, and every doctor and nurse that provided care for her. May her memory be a blessing and live on forever.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from half past six o’clock until half past eight o’clock in the evening on Sunday, the 8th of April, in the library and grand foyer for Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
