NANCY O’NEILL WADE

1923-2018

-

Nancy O’Neill Wade, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, the 2nd of April, 2018. She was born on the 3rd of November, 1923 to Jane and Charles T. O’Neill. She grew up in Crozet, VA until 1935, at which time her family moved to Charlottesville. She attended Converse College. In 1944, she married her childhood sweetheart, Neal O. Wade. She raised three children amid Neal’s many career transfers to various cities until they settled permanently in Houston in 1968.

Nancy was a member of Colonial Dames, the Houston Garden Club, the Junior League, and the Houston Country Club. She loved and served in her church, St. Martin’s Episcopal, since they moved to Houston. She was an active member of Altar Guild from 1973-1993. She joyfully served as President in 1978 and remained in the Auxiliary the rest of her life. She spent many years in St. Martin’s Christian Life Studies, studying God’s Word and enjoying fellowship with her many dear friends. The past year she often voiced her desire to get well enough to return to her church. Her presence will be greatly missed.

Nancy touched so many people’s lives in all the places they lived because of the way she lived and cared for others. She loved to have people into her home and taught us all so much about being a gracious hostess. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, calling us all her little ‘chickens’. She was always so appreciative of anything someone did for her, up until the day she died. She loved us well and we are so grateful to God for her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Neal, her brother Charles T. O’Neill and his wife, Eugenia. She is survived by her sister and brotherin-law, Jane and Dr. Sam Graham; her daughter Nancy Blalock and husband Bill, her sons Mac and wife, Robin, Neal and wife, Marion; her grandchildren, Catherine Culley and husband, Jonathan, Ann Hutcheson and husband, Don, Neal Wade and wife Mary, Alison Jamison and husband, Andy, Scott Wade and wife Katie, David Wade and wife Ally; and 17 great grandchildren.

We wish to thank all those who cared for her so well the past few years, particularly, Gabriela Gutierrez as well as the staff at Uptown Homecare/ Pulse Staffing, especially Kathy Gillian, Anita Bates, Monica Barry, Debbi Bush, Ana Fuente, and Annette Washington.

A memorial service and celebration of her life is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 6th of April at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the nearby Bagby Parish Hall.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Martins Episcopal Church; or to the charity of one’s choice.
