- From staff and wire reports

NEW YORK — Nine West Holdings has become the latest retailer to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in an attempt to restructure its debt.

Best Buy warns of data breach

Best Buy is warning that some of its customers' payment information may have been compromised in a data breach.

The retailer is the latest company, along with Delta Air Lines and Sears, to report the cyberattack last fall against a third-party operator of its chat services.

Best Buy said a “small fraction” of its online customer population may have been affected, whether or not chat services were used.

The software company, (24)7.ai, says it discovered and fixed the breach in October. The attack may have exposed customers' names, addresses, credit card numbers, card security codes and expiration dates.

Best Buy said it would directly contact any affected customers and they will not be liable for fraudulent charges. It will also offer free credit monitoring.

Chairman of ship pilots board resigns

The chairman of the board that represents ship pilots in Galveston and Texas City resigned this week. Kenny Koncaba was appointed to the Pilot Commissioners in June 2015.

The resignation comes as the board, which oversees the pilots who guide vessels into port, is in a feud with the Galveston port, its governing board and cruise lines over fog delays. On Friday, Koncaba denied he left because of the dispute.

“My decision is completely separate of any of the issues being discussed with Galveston Wharves and the cruise industry,” Koncaba said in an email. “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity and proud of my service on this commission, and I look forward to continuing to serve and contribute to Texas’ success.”

The Galveston Daily News reported he resigned in preparation for a new job offered to him by Gov. Greg Abbott.

The Wharves Board is also seeking oversight of pilot actions and rates. Other ports in Texas have one governing board that oversees the port and pilots. Galveston's pilot commissioners, however, are appointed by the governor.
