Yanks, Red Sox brawl; 3 ejected

BOSTON — Tyler Austin rushed the mound after being hit by a pitch from Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly, triggering a bench-clearing brawl in a ramped-up rivalry as the New York Yankees ended Boston's ninegame winning streak with a 10-7 win on Wednesday.

In a matchup between teams that have long tangled, Gary Sanchez hit two home runs in a game that twice saw the benches empty and a fight that resulted in a trio of ejections. Austin, Kelly and Yankees third-base coach Phil Nevin were ejected.

Nolan Arenado charged the ROCKIES 6, PADRES 4: mound after a fastball from Luis Perdomo sailed behind him, setting off a brawl that resulted in five ejections during Colorado's win over visiting San Diego. Arenado, German Marquez and Gerardo Parra were ejected along with Perdomo and A.J. Ellis.

Peter Bourjos drove in BRAVES 5, NATIONALS 3 (12): two runs with a bases-loaded single in the 12th inning, and Atlanta held on for the win at Washington after losing Brandon McCarthy to an injured left shoulder.

Detroit pitcher Jordan Zimmermann TIGERS 5, IDIANS 1: bruised the right side of his jaw when hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of Jason Kipnis and left after two batters in a win at Cleveland.

Zack Wheeler gave up an early METS 4, MARLINS 1: homer but retired the final 16 batters he faced in his season debut to help visiting New York top Miami for its eighth straight victory. Paul Goldschmid­t and DIAMONDBAC­KS 7, GIANTS 3: John Ryan Murphy hit home runs, and visiting Arizona won its fourth straight series to start a season for the first time since beginning play in 1998. Matt Davidson hit a two-run WHITE SOX 2, RAYS 1: homer in the eighth inning as Chicago improved to 1-5 at home, matching its worst home start since 1975. Scott Kingery hit a gameending PHILLIES 4, REDS 3 (12): sacrifice fly in the 12th, and host Philadelph­ia completed a three-game sweep. Matt Albers got his first BREWERS 3, CARDINALS 2: save for Milwaukee, retiring Kolten Wong and Dexter Fowler to help beat host St. Louis. Javier Baez homered twice and CUBS 13, PIRATES 5: scored the go-ahead run on a daring dash around the bases, helping Chicago pound visiting Pittsburgh. Shohei Ohtani had an RBI ANGELS 7, RANGERS 2: single in the second inning that put Los Angeles ahead for good in a rout at Texas. Kyle Seager hit a go-ahead MARINERS 4, ROYALS 2: homer in the eighth as Seattle won at Kansas City. Jonathan Schoop drove in ORIOLES 5, BLUE JAYS 3: two runs as host Baltimore avoided a series sweep.
