SHIRLEY MAE CONRAD

1933-2018

-

Shirley Davis Conrad, age 84, of Pasadena, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018. She was born July 12, 1933 in Pasadena, Texas to Andrew and Bertha Davis. After graduating from Pasadena High School in 1951 she continued her education at Massey Business College in Houston. She was top student in the business school and upon graduation she secured a highly coveted position as Executive Secretary with General Electric. On November 5, 1954 she married Marvin (Bud) Conrad, Sr. of Easton, Maryland, who she met while he was stationed at Ellington Air Force Base. Once she began having children she spent her time organizing and taking care of the household and her family. She spent much of her time taking her children to sports practices and games, dance lessons, the skating rink, and anywhere else we could talk her into going. As we grew older she was always there when we needed her. We saw her continue her unwavering devotion by caring for our dad and being his advocate when he suffered from dementia in the last years of his life. They shared 61 years together. We will always be thankful for her. She was active in the PTA and had served as President. She enjoyed organizing PHS reunions and truly loved meeting at Luby’s for lunch and spending time with all her friends she had known since an early age. She instilled a great work ethic and great values in her children. She was a strong and courageous woman who set an example to everyone. It was important to her to always “do the right thing”. In addition to having a life-long love of reading, she also enjoyed line dancing, gardening, traveling, watching Wheel of Fortune and Dancing with the Stars, calling the City of Pasadena for poor road conditions or traffic light timing issues, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena, Texas on Sunday, April 15 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Grand View Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 17 AT 10:00 a.m. with interment immediately following at Houston National Cemetery.

Left to remember her are: daughter, Cynthia Zarsky (John), son, Marvin Conrad Jr. (Denise), daughter, Vivian Augustine (August), son, Neal Conrad (Tracey), and many grandchildren. She is survived by her younger brother A.J. Davis and his wife, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
