Devils’ late flurry defeats Lightning

NEWARK, N.J. — Taylor Hall had a goal and two assists, setting up Stefan Noesen's gamewinner with 7:05 play, and the New Jersey Devils scored four times in the third period to fight their way back into their first-round series with Tampa Bay on Monday night, beating the Lightning 5-2 in Game 3.

Will Butcher had a power-play goal earlier in the third to tie the score, and Blake Coleman and Ben Lovejoy added empty-net goals late.

AVALANCHE 5 PREDATORS 3

Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, including one as part of a three-goal first period and another to chase Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne from the game, and Colorado held on to win at home and pull to 2-1 in the firstround series.

Blake Comeau and Gabriel Bourque also scored in a furious opening period.

MAPLE LEAFS 4, BRUINS 2

Auston Matthews scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and Patrick Marleau had two goals as Toronto beat visiting Boston in the third game of their Eastern Conference firstround series.

James van Riemsdyk also scored, and Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly each added two assists to help the Maple Leafs pull to 2-1 in the best-of-seven set.

SUNDAY’S LATE GAME KNIGHTS 3, KINGS 2

James Neal scored the tiebreakin­g goal with 5:37 to play, and Vegas rallied from a third-period deficit to move to the brink of the expansion franchise's first playoff series victory with a win at Los Angeles.

Cody Eakin tied it with 13:50 left, and William Karlsson scored 21 seconds after Neal's goal in a third-period flurry for the Golden Knights.
