‘EMPIRE’ STAR READY TO SHOW OFF VOICE
Jussie Smollett is bringing the sum of his music to Houston.
The “Empire” star performs June 1 at Satellite Bar in Houston’s East End. Tickets are $15 and on sale now.
A $65 VIP ticket includes early entry into the venue, a meet-and-greet with Smollett, a T-shirt and poster.
Smollett has starred as Jamal Lyon on “Empire” since 2015. He released his debut album, “Sum of My Music,” in March. A video for the song “Hurt People” premiered this week.
J. Balvin swings back to Houston
J Balvin is continuing his road to worldwide domination.
The reggaeton superstar is bringing his Vibras Tour to the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land on Oct. 4. Tickets are $39.95-$350 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster.
Balvin’s much-anticipated new album, “Vibras,” drops May 25. He has become one of Latin music’s most vital voices over the past few years. He’s currently clocking more than 41 million monthly Spotify listeners, ranking him third in the world on the streaming service.
Last month, he became one of few Spanish-language acts to perform on a night other than Go Tejano Day at RodeoHouston and drew more than 74,000 people.
His song “Mi Gente” was one of 2017’s biggest hits, thanks in part to an assist from Houston’s own Beyoncé. Balvin joined Beyoncé at Coachella over the weekend to perform the song. He also popped in during Cardi B’s set.
“Being Latino and the Spanish language opened the door of the world to me,” Balvin posted on Instagram after his Coachella experience.
Arctic Monkeys bring the cool
Persistently buzzy British band Arctic Monkeys will play the Revention Music Center in Houston on their summer/fall tour. The band comes to town Oct. 12.
The Arctic Monkeys are swinging around after a long hiatus. The band’s 2013 album, “AM,” was a breakthrough hit that prompted sizable touring and promotion, after which the group took a minor hiatus.
The new “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino” will be released next month.
