THELMA JONES

1930-2018

-

Thelma Elizabeth Jones, 87, of Sugar Land, Texas passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, with her family at her side, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born June 3, 1930 in Louisville, Ky., to Philipp and Clara Magel.

Thelma worked for many years in the Houston Independent School District as a school secretary at Fannin, Anson Jones, and Kate Bell elementary schools, while also working part-time as an Avon salesperson. She was a charter member of the Gethsemane United Church of Christ in Houston for many years and in recent years had been attending the Sugar Land Bible Church.

Thelma was a loving wife, mother and friend. She loved square dancing and country western dancing, and spending time at the bay house at Carancahua Bay (boating, fishing, and mowing the grass aboard the riding mower). Her beautiful smile and laugh will be greatly missed.

Thelma is survived by her husband of 44 years Manford (Roy) Jones; her son David Evans; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Philipp Magel, Jr., Marion Magel, and Anna Martin, and by her son, Richard Evans.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018, from 2 – 3 pm at Sugar Land Bible Church, 401 Matlage Way, Sugar Land, TX 77478. In lieu of flowers, donations to SLBC Sanctuary Project at the church would be greatly appreciated.
