Assistant GM Raye, others from scouting department let go
The Texans were expected to make changes to their personnel department under the leadership of new general manager Brian Gaine as he took over for Rick Smith.
One day after the NFL draft concluded, the Texans dismissed assistant general manager Jimmy Raye III, director of college scouting Jon Carr, assistant director of college scouting Mike Martin, college scouting coordinator Matt Jansen and college scout Seth Turner, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.
All were hired by Smith.
Raye was brought in as a vice president of player personnel and assistant general manager a year ago after a stint with the Indianapolis Colts as vice president of football operations. Raye, who replaced Gaine when he went to the Buffalo Bills last year as vice president of player personnel, previously was with the Chargers in San Diego for 17 years.
Shortly after the season, the Texans let go of assistant pro personnel director Larry Wright; senior director of player engagement Sean Washington; pro scout Tolu Lasaki, director of sports science Erik Korem; football operations director Jason Lowrey, who is being sued by a former employee for sexual harassment; and Rita Daniels, Smith's longtime former secretary.
Carr had replaced nowNew York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan as director of college scouting. Carr previously was a national college scout and had been with the team for more than a decade.
Martin had also been with the team for more than a decade and was promoted from college scout to his current position.
Martin was instrumental in recommending and signing undrafted free agents that included former Pro Bowl running back Arian Foster and Jacksonville Jaguars Pro Bowl cornerback A.J. Bouye and draft picks, including former Pro Bowl offensive tackle Duane Brown.
