BALTIMORE ORIOLES

Struggling righthander Chris Tillman was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a lower back strain on Friday.

The move came less than 24 hours after Tillman yielded six runs in 11⁄3 innings against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night, leaving him at 1-5 with a 10.46 ERA.

After the game, he said: “I’m just not getting it done. It’s not good right now. I’ve got to make better pitches.”

Tillman will be replaced on the roster by right-handed reliever Jimmy Yacabonis, who was recalled from AAA Norfolk.

CLEVELAND INDIANS

Andrew Miller was activated from the 10-day DL after the team struggled mightily without the star lefthander, who was sidelined since April 26 because of a strained left hamstring.

Against the Royals on Friday night, Miller entered in the seventh inning with a one-run lead and gave up a two-run homer to Salvador Perez. Miller, who had pitched 10 scoreless innings before the injury, was removed following the homer.

The club’s relievers complied a 9.50 ERA in 36 innings and the Indians went 5-9 without Miller. Five of the losses came after leading or being tied in the eighth inning or later.

NEW YORK METS

LHP Jason Vargas will skip his next turn in the rotation on Tuesday.

Manager Mickey Callaway said that Vargas will throw a simulated game before the team hosts Toronto. Vargas is 0-3 with a 13.86 ERA since returning from surgery on his right hand.

“You've got to look yourself in the mirror and just understand that the job wasn't getting done,” Vargas said after completing a bullpen session on Friday.
