Astros (30-18) update: The Astros have allowed just 123 runs in 48 games this season. The only other pitching staff in the live-ball era (since 1920) to post a run total that low through the first 48 games of a season was the 1968 Cleveland Indians (112 runs). … Verlander and Cole rank first and third in the majors in ERA. … Jose Altuve has played second base in 999 of his 1,030 major league games. His next appearance there will make him the third Astro with 1,000 games at second, joining Craig Biggio (1,990) and Bill Doran (1,138).

Giants (24-24) update: Brandon Belt won National League Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday. Over seven games last week, the first baseman had a .444/.500/1.074 slash line with five homers, eight runs and 11 RBIs. His tiebreakin­g three-run, seventh-inning homer lifted San Francisco over the Rockies on Sunday. … Shortstop Brandon Crawford is hitting an MLB-best .444 (32-for-72) in May with 16 RBIs in 19 games. … Outfielder Andrew McCutchen is day-to-day with a bruised knee. … Ace Madison Bumgarner, who has been out all season with a broken pinkie suffered at the end of the exhibition season, is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment this weekend.
