Foyt driver Kanaan tops final Indy practice

- From staff and wire reports

INDIANAPOLIS —

Tony Kanaan found himself in a familiar place atop the speed chart Friday at the final practice for the Indianapolis 500.

Kanaan paced the field with a lap of 227.791 mph, underscoring the might that Chevrolet has shown all month. But he was followed by three Hondapowered cars driven by Scott Dixon, Marco Andretti and Sebastien Bourdais — a sign of just how wide open Sunday's race figures to be.

“I've started first. I've started last. So I've been at both ends,” said Kanaan, who will start 10th for A.J. Foyt Racing. “If it goes right, we have a pretty good chance. I think we can get there.”

Danica Patrick was the eighth-quickest in the final practice session of her racing career. Patrick posted her lap of 223.653 early in the hour-long session before an electrical issue sent her to the garage.

TENNIS Nastase arrested twice in six hours

Former player Ilie

Nastase was arrested twice in the space of six hours in his native Romania, first on suspicion of driving a car while drunk and refusing to take a breathalyzer test, and then for going through a red light on a scooter.

Nastase, 71, had a level of 0.55 mg of alcohol per liter of breath, according to the Bucharest police — far enough over the legal limit to face a maximum five-year prison sentence.

Police initially stopped the former U.S. and French Open champion at about 4:45 a.m.. They said he was visibly drunk; he said that he had three beers.

Nastase refused to take a breathalyzer and officers removed him from the vehicle and handcuffed him. He later was released as police opened a criminal investigation against him for drunken driving and failing to take a breathalyzer test.

Police stopped him again about six hours later after he allegedly went through a red light on a scooter. His driving license had been suspended after the first incident.

Shanghai in his season debut last October and has four top-10 finishes, had five birdies in a seven-hole stretch in the middle of his round.

Grillo had a 67 that included six consecutive holes without a par. Brooks Koepka (63)

and Satoshi Kodaira (67) were 7 under.

Noren, the defending champion, called it the best round he has seen. “I'm about to quit golf, I think,” joked Noren, whose own round of 68 left him five shots off the pace at 7-under par alongside Robert Rock and Kiradech Aphibarnrat.
