Father’s Day is so bright you need to don shades.

WHEN IT COMES TO BRUNCH, MICHAEL AND DAVID CORDÚA HAVE IT MADE IN THE SHADES

Michael Cordúa, James Beard Foundation Award-nominated chef/restaurateur, enjoys making jokes at David Cordúa’s expense.

“I can do that, he’s my son,” Michael says playfully. “He made me a father.”

And David, an executive chef, doesn’t mind the jabs. “I know it’s so cliché, but he and my mom are my best friends.”

That’s a good thing, because the Cordúas spend an awful lot of time together. Amazón Grill, Américas, Artista, Churrascos and a catering company are currently all filed under “family business.” Their restaurants are also popular picks with Houston families looking to book a festive reservation for holidays and special occasions, like say, Father’s Day.

This Sunday, at Américas in River Oaks, Michael and David have put together a duo of “Father Knows Best” dining options. There’s the Pan-Latin mainstay’s signature brunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a three-course dinner ($39.95) served after 4 p.m.

Should the weekend’s rainy forecast clear up — in the Bayou City, it’s totally possible — treat Dad to a cold one on the patio and matching his-and-his sunglasses.

Though Michael typically prefers oversized aviators and David’s more of a Wayfarer type guy, both fell hard for Moscot honey blonde shades.

A pair may or may not have wound up back in the kitchen, tucked into a chef’s apron, where presumably a bit of added style was being edited into Sunday’s menu.
