Chronicle staffers take home awards for digital reporting
LAS VEGAS — Houston Chronicle business journalists Nancy Sarnoff and Katherine Feser were recognized last week with awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors for their work in new media.
A panel of judges from Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University selected the winners of the 68th Annual Journalism Awards. The awards, announced Friday, recognize excellence in reporting, writing and editing commercial and residential real estate stories across a range of categories.
Sarnoff received a Silver award in the category Best Audio or Video Real Estate Report for her podcast, Looped In. After last year’s hurricane, she released an eight-part series highlighting the lives of several Houstonians who lost their homes during the storm and exploring with experts what led to the unprecedented flooding.
“Sarnoff takes the listener through her experiences and those of other Houstonians during Harvey. This is a well-produced podcast with natural sound, interviews and a host who was willing to open her life to her listeners,” the judges commented about “Stories from Hurricane Harvey and Houston’s recovery, Part 1.”
Feser received a Silver award for her weekly “Prime Property” e-newsletter. Judges commented that the newsletter “has snappy teasers that make readers want to click through to engaging stories about the city’s commercial real estate scene.”
Feser received another Bronze award for a collection of tweets on local real estate developments.
NAREE presented the awards at its 52nd Annual Real Estate Journalism Conference at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas.
