Judge, Yankees sweep Mariners

NEW YORK — Aaron Judge and Miguel Andujar hit two-run homers off James Paxton in the first inning, which sent the New York Yankees over the Seattle Mariners 4-3 on Thursday for a three-game sweep.

Luis Severino and the Yankees boosted the best record in the majors to 50-22. They’ve won four in a row and 17 of 21. Seattle has lost a season-high four straight.

New York launched eight homers in the sweep and tops baseball with 122 long balls.

RED SOX 9, TWINS 2: Rick Porcello allowed one hit in seven innings, Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi homered, and Boston won at Minnesota to avoid a series sweep. Xander Bogaerts had two RBIs for Boston, which had a season-high 16 hits and went 6-4 on a road trip through Baltimore, Seattle and Minnesota.

DIAMONDBAC­KS 9, PIRATES 3: Ketel Marte and Alex Avila each hit two-run homers, and Arizona scored eight runs in the first three innings to power its way to a victory over host Pittsburgh.

NATIONALS 4, ORIOLES 2: Juan Soto hit a tiebreakin­g two-run double in the eighth, and host Washington beat Baltimore in the deciding matchup of a threegame interleagu­e series between neighborin­g rivals.

BREWERS 11, CARDINALS 3: Brent Suter pitched seven strong innings, Manny Pina homered, and Milwaukee capitalize­d on a season-high four errors by St. Louis to beat the visiting Cardinals.

GIANTS 3, PADRES 0: Madison Bumgarner pitched eight innings of three-hit ball for his first win of the season, Mark Melancon earned his first save in a year, and host San Francisco beat San Diego.

ANGELS 8, BLUE JAYS 5: Luis Valbuena hit a pair of homers and finished with three RBIs, Kole Calhoun added a two-run shot, and Los Angeles held off visiting Toronto in Mike Trout’s 1,000th career game.

ROCKIES 6, METS 4: Nolan Arenado homered for the third straight game and drove in five runs to lead Colorado to a win over visiting New York.

REDS 6, CUBS 2: Jesse Winker hit his first career grand slam during a big sixth-inning rally night, and Cincinnati defeated visiting Chicago.
