Martinez, Bosox win 7th straight

BOSTON — J.D. Martinez hit his major leaguelead­ing 28th home run, Steve Pearce added a two-run shot, and Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 52⁄3 innings Monday night to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 5-0 victory over the Texas Rangers and their seventh straight win.

Pearce, who was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays last month, lined a 3-2 pitch into the Monster Seats with two outs in the first inning to make it 2-0.

YANKEES, ORIOLES SPLIT: Brett Gardner had four hits, homered and drove in three runs to help New York beat host Baltimore 10-2 for a doublehead­er split. In the opener, Danny Valencia snapped an 0-for-25 skid with a three-run homer off CC Sabathia, and Baltimore ended a six-game skid with a 5-4 victory.

PHILLIES, METS SPLIT: Recently named All-Star Aaron Nola allowed one hit in seven shutout innings to become the only 12-game winner in the National League and lashed a three-run double that sent Philadelph­ia past host New York 3-1 for a split of their twinight doublehead­er. In the opener, Wilmer Flores connected for a pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the 10th to give New York a 4-3 victory.

TWINS 3, ROYALS 1: Eduardo Escobar had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh to support Jose Berrios’ strong outing as Minnesota defeated visiting Kansas City. PIRATES 6, NATIONALS 3: Gregory Polanco drove in four runs in the first two innings, and host Pittsburgh went on to a victory over Washington. MARLINS 4, BREWERS 3: Backup catcher Bryan Holaday hit a walk-off RBI single with one out in the 10th inning, and host Miami beat Milwaukee. REDS 7, INDIANS 5: Anthony DeSclafani allowed one run in seven innings, and Scott Schebler was 4-for-5 with a homer as Cincinnati won at Cleveland. RAYS 10, TIGERS 9: Daniel Robertson hit an RBI single in the 10th inning, and Tampa Bay won for the 12th time in its last 13 home games by beating Detroit. DODGERS 8, PADRES 2: Clayton Kershaw allowed just two hits over six shutout innings, Justin Turner drove in two runs, and Los Angeles won at San Diego.
