‘Horrible’ timing for an outage
Live-streaming service YouTube TV went dark Wednesday during the World Cup soccer semifinal match between England and Croatia.
The service tweeted an apology for the “horrible” timing of the malfunction at about 2 p.m. Central time Wednesday. The outage came less than an hour after YouTube TV tweeted a tongue-in-cheek jab at fans cheering for one of the teams in the match: “Hey #ENG fans, are you guys okay?”
Streaming resumed about an hour after the outage while the soccer match continued.
YouTube TV, part of Google’s YouTube video service, has leaned more on live sports to attract consumers.
