Alex Bregman to participate in Monday’s Home Run Derby.

-

Astros infielder Alex Bregman, who has hit 11 home runs in his last 24 games, will participate in the Home Run Derby at the MLB All-Star Game on Monday.

The announcement came the day after Bregman hit two home runs against the A’s, the first multi-homer game of his career.

Bregman, who made his major league debut less than two years ago, has a team-high 19 home runs this season, matching the number of long balls he hit in 2017., Bregman leads the American League in homers (14) and OPS (1.085) since the start of June.

This year’s Derby, which will be at Nationals Park in Washington, will feature Bregman and seven players from the National League, with the hitters seeded based upon their home run totals through Tuesday’s games.

Fourth-seeded Bregman will open against Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber. Brewers first baseman Jesus Aguilar, who has 23 home runs this season, is the No. 1 seed. Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, Cubs infielder Javier Baez, Phillies outfielder Rhys Hoskins and Dodgers infielder Max Muncy are the other participants.

Bregman will be the fifth Astro to participate in the competition, and the first to do so in 10 years.

Lance Berkman finished in a tie for third in 2008. He was the runner-up in 2004, when the All-Star Game was held at Minute Maid Park, the highest finish by an Astro.
