RONI T. LIGHT

1948-2018

-

Roni T. Light passed away on July 12, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in New York City to Bebe & Thomas Gleason. In 1971 Roni married her college sweetheart Bob Light. They eventually came to Houston in 1981 after Bob finished medical school and training in Galveston. Roni fell in love with Texas so after completion of his fellowship they settled in Houston and Bob joined a urology practice.

During her early years in Houston, Roni became an avid tennis player and played most days with her best friend Jere Claghorn, regardless of the weather.

Roni had a passion for animals. In addition to her own dogs and cats, she was a friend of all helpless creatures and was known for rescuing any stray animals, whether returning a stray dog to a local veterinarian, trapping a raccoon and releasing it in one of the parks or maintaining bird feeders. She supported two of her favorite charities, Citizens for Animal Protection and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Her second passion was sports. She was an avid follower of The Houston Oilers being one of the original “Luv Ya Blue” fans. She also loved The Houston Rockets and was fortunate to be at the championship games and see them win 2 years in a row. More recently there was no better cure for her chemotherapy blues than watching the World Series Champion Houston Astros games on TV.

Roni was predeceased by her parents, and by her dear friends Jere Claghorn and Paulette Cheek. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Bob Light, sister-in-law Patrice Donner and husband Neal, nephew Adam Donner and wife Sheryl, great nephew Logan Donner and great niece Sienna Donner. Roni had many dear friends over the years but was especially close to Roberta Kahn, Carol Raica, Marlene Yanelli, Sharon Cohn, Nina Vitek, Emily McFarland and Evelyn Crumb.

The family extends a special thank you to the many physicians involved in her care particularly Dr. Garth Beinart and Dr. Ana Blackmon.

There will be a Memorial Service on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Congregation Emanu El, 1500 Sunset Blvd., Houston, TX 77005 at 6:00 P.M in the Proler Chapel. A reception will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers a donation in memory of Roni can be made to Houston Food Bank, 535 Portwall St. Houston, Tx 77029 or a charity of your choice.
