MLB REPORT
The scheduled Subway Series finale between the New York Mets and New York Yankees on Sunday night was postponed because of rain.
The game will be made up Aug. 13 at Yankee Stadium.
With steady rain in the Bronx, a tarp covered the infield all evening and play never began. The game was called about an hour after the scheduled 7:05 p.m. start.
Mets ace Jacob deGrom, who leads the majors with a 1.68 ERA, had been slated to pitch against Yankees righthander Masahiro Tanaka. Yankees manager Aaron Boone says the team will keep All-Star righthander Luis Severino on his regular turn Monday night at Tampa Bay, with Tanaka going Tuesday.
LOS ANGELES DODGERS
3B Justin Turner went 1-for-2 with an RBI double Sunday against the Brewers in his first start since the break, but he was removed before the bottom of the third with right groin tightness. Manager Dave Roberts said the team would consider putting Turner on the disabled list. He had been sidelined before Sunday with what the club called an upper right leg muscle injury.
NEW YORK METS
In the latest bizarre medical development for the baffling club, ace RHP Noah Syndergaard is headed back to the DL after contracting hand-footand-mouth disease.
The team figures it’s likely Syndergaard caught the contagious virus when he made an appearance at a baseball camp for kids Thursday during the All-Star break. Mets manager Mickey Callaway said that probably explains why Syndergaard weakened and his velocity decreased during Friday’s win at Yankee Stadium.
ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
RHP Daniel Poncedeleon will make his major league debut Monday at Cincinnati. He underwent surgery in 2017 to relieve pressure around his brain after he was hit in the head by a line drive while pitching for Memphis.
SEATTLE MARINERS
LHP James Paxton (8-4, 3.70 ERA) is expected to come off the 10-day disabled list to start Tuesday night against San Francisco.
Paxton went on the DL on July 13 because of lower back inflammation.
WASHINGTON NATIONALS
The club traded OF Brian Goodwin to the Kansas City Royals for minor league pitcher Jacob Condra-Bogan.
Goodwin, 27, hit .200 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 48 games for the Nationals this season.
