Housing, with honors

18 apartment communities in the area earn top awards for sleek upgrades and cool amenities

- By Katherine Feser STAFF WRITER

Amenities such as dog parks, yoga lawns and bike storage and repair areas helped 18 local apartment developments secure Houston Apartment Association Honors Awards.

HAA recognized properties of various ages and sizes. The winners include sleek new high-rises and older garden-style complexes. One caters to seniors.

Owners and managers of some older developments scored high marks for polishing up their properties by upgrading both the common areas and unit interiors, and generally improving the tenant experience.

Others were recognized for state-of-the-art fitness centers, resortstyle pools and tenant lounges with city views.

HAA considered factors such as service, operations, design and impact on the community in selecting the winners, which submitted applications for the

awards.

Results of the annual competition were announced June 28.
