MARGARET TING YONG

1949-2018

Margaret Ting Yong— beloved wife, mother, grandmother, registered nurse, and small-business owner—passed away on July 18, 2018, in Newton, MA. Born Margaret Ting in Mukah, Sarawak, Malaysia, to Peter Ting and Mary Hee, she graduated with honors from St. Teresa’s National Secondary School in Kuching, Sarawak. At Sarawak General Hospital School of Nursing, she studied general nursing and received additional training as a midwife and surgical nurse. In 1980, she moved with her family to Houston, where she worked as a registered nurse for Spring Branch Memorial Hospital, the VA Medical Center, and Cypress-Fairbanks Medical Center. Margaret was also a small-business owner and ran several home health care businesses, including Angelus Health Services.

She is lovingly remembered by James L. Yong, her husband of 44 years; daughter Belinda; son Robert Jason Yong, MD; his wife, Linda Lee, MD; and her two most treasured grandsons, Connor and Dylan. She is also fondly remembered by sister Rita Ting Wong and brother Joseph Ting of Malaysia and their families, as well as her extended family and vast network of friends across the country and in Malaysia, Canada, and Australia.

Margaret loved to travel and made friends with people all around the world, but she found the most fulfilment by devoting her time and energy to her cherished Catholic faith. She was first a member of the Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and then became a third-order member of the Benedictine Daughters of the Divine Will. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.

Funeral visitation will be held on Friday, July 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 10135 West Road, Houston, TX 77064. Margaret requested that attendees wear red and/ or white, as we are celebrating the life of an extraordinarily gifted and generous daughter of God.
