Victim’s bank card used after her slaying
Prosecutors also say mattress store worker was shot to death at point-blank range
The man accused of killing three people in a weeklong crime spree in July allegedly shot one of the victims pointblank at her workplace in the Willowbrook area, then used her bank card, prosecutors said Monday.
Jose Gilberto Rodriguez appeared in court Monday in the death of Allie Barrow at a Mattress Firm in Willowbrook where she worked. Handcuffed, he showed no emotion as prosecutors read the list of evidence against him.
Rodriguez, 46, is accused of “intentionally” killing the 28year-old woman during an attempted robbery.
Barrow was slain on July 14. According to reports, her body was later discovered by the store manager, stuffed between two mattresses in the back of the store.
Barrow’s purse and vehicle were missing from the store, according to prosecuting attorney John Wakefield, who presented evidence for probable cause Monday morning. Her bank card was used twice after her death, on July 14 and 15, at a Chevron station and a Walmart. Authorities have found security surveillance video of Rodriguez at both locations, including footage of him making a purchase at the Walmart electronics counter.
Barrow died of one gunshot wound to the head, and Wakefield said the medical examiner described the wound as a contact wound, “which usually means the gun was actually touching the skin.”
Rodriguez, a sex offender who cut off his ankle monitor, has also been charged with capital murder in the deaths of two other people: Pamela Johnson, who was killed at her home in Cypress, and Edward Magaña, who was killed at a Mattress One store where he worked.
Rodriguez is being held with no bond in the death of Barrow, which is consistent with his other two capital murder charges. He is due back in court Sept. 19.
