27. GUY CLARK

- Joey Guerra

Clark is quite simply one of the greatest songwriters ever to have called Texas home. Born in Monahans and raised in Rockport, he moved to Nashville but kept the state close to his heart. He was 34 when he released his first album, “Old No. 1,” in 1975, containing the staple “L.A. Freeway.” Clark, and his voice that often sounded like it was on the verge of a cry, died in 2016 but his music lives on through the many artists who adore his music. Most Texas musical moment: Clark moved to Houston in the 1960’s, where he made the nightclub rounds and worked as an art director for TV channels 11 and 13.
