KENNETH THOMAS SNYDER, SR.
1920-2018
Kenneth Thomas Snyder, Sr. of Houston, died peacefully August 9, 2018. Ken was born on March 25, 1920 in Allentown, Pennsylvania the youngest of 8 to Moses and Flora Snyder. Ken’s Dad was a tailor. Ken learned about honesty, integrity, doing the right thing, being a gentlemen and doing the best you can with what God has given you from his parents. He lived by these traits all his life.
Ken took advantage of every opportunity that came his way. He was the only sibling to attend college. His football skills allowed him to attend Franklin and Marshall College. Getting a BS in Economics gave him the opportunity to enter the U. S. Marine Corp, May 1943 as an officer and serve as a Battery Commanding Officer of 90MM Antiaircraft Unit with 20 months service in the Pacific. Upon discharge in 1946 Ken worked for Atlas Mineral Products Company in Mertztown, Pennsylvania and was transferred to Houston in 1948. In 1955 the company asked him to be transferred back home and he took advantage of another opportunity and started the K. T. Snyder Company with sole purpose and intentions of supplying improved sealing compounds and methods of application for waterproofing underground concrete pipe joints throughout the USA. From this product he developed other uses which were for waterproofing steel hatch covers on cargo ships (Diplomatic Marine, Inc) and waterproofing underground concrete structures (Synko-Flex Products, Inc). Upon retirement Ken spent the rest of his years traveling with the love of his life, Marge, playing golf, enjoying his children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Marge and daughter, Barbara. Ken leaves to cherish his memory his children, Tom Snyder (Karen) of Houston, Texas, Lynn Roos (Armand) of Shreveport, Louisiana and two grandchildren Elizabeth White (Kevin) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Kenny Roos (Ella) of Shreveport, Louisiana and one great grandson, Shep Roos, numerous nieces and nephews, friends from St. Cecilia Church and School and Friends from The Buckingham where he lived for the last 6 years.
Arrangements in Houston are with Earthman Funeral Directors at Hunters Creek. A Mass of Christian burial and service of thanksgiving and celebration of Ken’s life will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, the 13th of August, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive in Houston where the Reverend Father Francis Macatangay is to serve as the celebrant with Deacon Frank Davis assisting. Immediately following the Mass, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Community Center. Later the family will gather for a private Rite of Committal at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers and staff at The Buckingham Retirement Community for the last 6 years. They treated him like Family and assured he had the best quality of life. The family would also like to thank Kindred Care for providing caring sitters and for the Kindred Hospice staff. The family will never be able to express the thanks due Dr. Roger Schultz who has treated Ken with love for over 30 years.
