CRAIG BENNETT BARTON

1956-2018

Craig Bennett Barton, age 62, died while at home on August 9, 2018. He will always be remembered for the infinite love and loyalty he held for his family and friends. Craig was born in Houston, Texas and never had the desire to leave “his favorite city in the world.” He grew up in Oak Forest until the family had to follow him to the golf community of Inwood Forest in the early 70s. There, his lifelong love of golf provided him with decades of anecdotes and stories that amused us his entire life.

As the family historian, he held all of our intimate events close to his heart and blessed us all with the details of our past that no one could recall but him. The youngest child of Leo Barton, Sr. and Virginia Bennett Barton, Craig was born in Houston, went to Eisenhower High School, and attended the University of Houston on a golf scholarship that set the stage for his lifelong love of the game. The special friends he played with are to this day his most loyal companions. Craig later worked as a printing broker in the Houston area. Throughout those years, he ran across old friends and also made new ones. This was something he loved to do, as he never forgot a face or a name!

Craig is survived by his wife, Becky Pickens; his cherished daughter Hillary Grassano and husband Alex of Dallas; his former wife Sandy Barton of Dallas; his sister Terri Gray of Houston; his brother Leo Barton, Jr. of Elkhart, TX; his sister-in-law Shannon Pickens Mayer and husband Bill of Houston; his nieces and nephews, Ali Gray Weaver & husband Alex, Andrew Gray & wife Megan, Brenna Sanzo & Chris, and Justin Dedear & wife Lauren; and by many other relatives and friends.

A gathering in Craig’s memory will be held at Pat H. Foley, 1200 West 34th St., Houston on Tuesday, August 14, 3:00 - 5:00 pm with a brief video and opportunity for remembrances. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The 100 Club. Those who knew Craig witnessed firsthand his admiration and respect for the HPD.
