1931-2018

Bettye Willis Northcutt Wiggins was born on July 24, 1931 in Denver, Colorado to parents Thelma G. Angell and George W. Northcutt. In 1937, her family moved to Dallas where Mrs. Wiggins graduated from North Dallas High School. She attended Texas Women’s University majoring in Journalism and in 1950 she met and married Gene B. Wiggins, Jr. After serving a two-year military obligation in Ft. Bliss, Texas, Mr. Wiggins, a geologist, and Mrs. Wiggins lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Buras, Louisiana, and Shreveport, Louisiana before relocating to Houston. Three children were born during this period including Gene B. Wiggins III, Lisa Anne Wiggins and Claire Lynn Wiggins. Mr. and Mrs. Wiggins ultimately relocated to Chicago in 1975 and then New Orleans in 1978. Mrs. Wiggins attended the University of New Orleans and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1990. After her husband died in 1990, Mrs. Wiggins relocated back to Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Wiggins was active as a docent at the Dallas Museum of Art and at the Meadows Museum on the SMU campus. She traveled extensively throughout the world pursuing her interests in history and in art. She is survived by her three children, four grandchildren (Sarah Kirkegaard, Erin Kirkegaard, Evan Kirkegaard, Brittany Wilson), and three great-grandchildren (Aleksander Doci, Sabina Shelley, Reina Shelley). Her knowledge and passion for art, history, and travel was generously shared with her children and grandchildren, enriching all of our lives. For this gift, we are truly grateful. The family will receive guests on the afternoon of Thursday, August 16, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. A private graveside service will at a later date.
