THE LOUNGE AT FIELD & TIDES

Restaurant’s sister property makes handsome bar and patio companion

An adjacent bar/predining companion to Heights restaurant Field & Tides from chef Travis Lenig and partner Christopher “Chico” Ramirez.

The converted former gas station (circa 1940s) seats 24 inside and up to 40 on the patio, with design touches that suggest both period speakeasy and contemporary urban boite — think oversize Edison bulb lighting, concrete floors, plenty of exposed brick, a whitesubway-tiled bar and rustic metal chairs wearing a deliberately weathered patina.

Lenig has introduced a new Field & Tides menu with the lounge’s debut. Look for dishes such as braised octopus with roasted potatoes, chorizo and chimichurri; soba noodle salad in a miso rice wine vinaigrette and studded with chopped mango, roasted eggplant, cilantro, peas, ginger and basil; sesame-crusted tuna with glazed broccolini; slow-cooked, Asian-spiced beef rib with Thai curry glaze served with crab fried rice; and daily catch flavored with curry, garlic and citrus cooked in a banana leaf and served with coconut rice, fried plantains and mango salsa.

Beverage director Monique Henandez’s cocktails include the Coastline (Fords Gin, lemon juice, elderflower liqueur and crushed mint) or The Basic B (Fords Gin, lavender syrup, lemon juice, Chambord, Topo Chico and a thyme sprig garnish); wine and craft beer are available, too.

“I can’t confirm that, but it’s a rumor,” Lenig said of local lore that Bonnie and Clyde stopped at the former gas station to fill their tank. “Maybe they gassed up, got supplies and moved on.”
