Kids rock the runway at MD Anderson’s children’s show.
Cute kids and fall clothes — when it comes to fashion shows, does it get any better?
That combination is why MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital’s annual back-to-school event is always such a hit. This year’s show, held at the Galleria’s ice rink, saw bodies in 110 runway seats with standingroom-only overflow, all looking on as models, including pediatric cancer patients, their siblings and MD Anderson caregivers, showed off the season’s trends.
One patient even participated from her hospital room, thanks to an MD Anderson robot that made its runway debut. The robots, part of the hospital’s K-12 private accredited school, are used for patients who are not well enough to attend school or activities. The patient, who controlled the robot’s movements through software loaded on a laptop, was visible to the crowd (and vice versa) via a screen atop the rolling device.
The show, emceed by KPRC Local 2’s Courtney Zavala, featured looks from Galleria stores including Crazy 8, Pure, Athleta, Francesca’s, Gymboree, Vera Bradley, Banana Republic, Buckle, Trina Turk, Robert Graham, Topshop and Macy’s.
Among the audience were Janet McCloskey, Katrina Burton, Krista Fredrick, Mary Kathryn Cooper, Dr. Richard Gorlick and Dr. Wykesha Hayes, Christopher Lane, MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital patients and families.
