Astros (74-47) update: Despite their relative struggles at home, where they are 33-29 (.532) and have lost nine of their last 10, the Astros have by far the best road record in the majors at 41-18 (.695). Their record against the A’s is a microcosm of this: They’re 6-0 at Oakland and 3-4 at Minute Maid Park. … The teams will meet in one more series Aug. 27-29 at Minute Maid. … OF George Springer, who has been on the disabled list with a left thumb sprain, is expected to be activated for tonight’s series opener. … Tyler White, who is coming off a two-homer game in Wednesday’s 12-1 win over Colorado, has gone 15-for-45 (.333) with five homers, two doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs since his most recent recall from Class AAA Fresno on June 29. Athletics (72-49) update: Oakland, which had pulled within a game of the Astros on Tuesday before falling two back on Wednesday, is 17-7 (.708) since the All-Star break and 37-13 (.740) over its last 50 games. … At 50-0, the A’s are the only team in the majors that is unbeaten when leading after seven innings, and their 65-game streak dating to last year matches the longest in franchise history (July 21, 1927-June 23, 1928 by the Philadelph­ia A’s). The last team to go undefeated when leading after seven innings was the 2012 Orioles (74-0). … The A’s are an MLB-best 25-10 (.714) in one-run games. … Oakland starters are 8-1 with a 1.84 ERA over the last 14 games. … Jackson, perhaps the majors’ most successful reclamatio­n project this year, has won his last three starts without allowing an earned run (191⁄3 innings). … Third baseman Matt Chapman has a 13-game hitting streak, going 18-for-53 (.340) during that span, and has reached base in 29 straight games. … Blake Treinen leads MLB relievers in ERA (0.89) and is third with 32 saves.
