Man, 82, found dead after Baytown fire
A body was found in a home destroyed by a fire in Baytown on Friday morning, officials said.
The blaze erupted about 2:30 a.m. at the house on 1715 Missouri near California.
Flames engulfed the home, causing heavy damage and partially collapsing the roof.
Firefighters were unable to check the home immediately because it was structurally unsound, according to Metro Video.
Authorities later confirmed that the 82-year-old male homeowner was found dead on the floor near the front door.
Authorities are still working to determine how he died, according to the news release. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The victim is Jimmy Tesar, said Steve Dorris, a spokesman for the Baytown Police Department. Tesar had lived at the home since at least 1998, public records show.
There were “no indications of foul play” in the fire, Dorris said.
“It looked like he was trying to make his way out of the door,” Dorris said.
A relative told a TV reporter that Tesar had just been released from the hospital, where he was being treated for congestive heart failure.
Firefighters attacked the blaze from the outside because the flames were so intense, according to Metro Video.
