INDIANS’ BAUER OUT 4-6 WEEKS

Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer, one of the leading candidates for the AL Cy Young Award, will be out four to six weeks because of a stress fracture in his right leg.

Bauer, who believes he’ll return earlier than the team’s timetable, was hit by Jose Abreu’s liner on Saturday against the White Sox. He had soreness and swelling, and an MRI on Tuesday revealed the injury.

The righthande­r is 12-6 with a 2.22 ERA in 25 starts and is among the league leaders in ERA, innings pitched and strikeouts.

Bauer could return during the regular season in mid-to-late September.

CHICAGO CUBS

LHP Mike Montgomery was placed on the 10-day disabled list with inflammati­on in his left shoulder, and Tyler Chatwood will return to the rotation and start Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

CINCINNATI REDS

1B Joey Votto was placed on the 10-day DL with a right lower leg injury.

The All-Star was hit by a pitch from Ryan Madson in Washington on Aug. 4. In the club’s 10 games since then, he missed four starts and two full games.

LOS ANGELES DODGERS

OF Yasiel Puig is appealing his two-game suspension for fighting and inciting a fight during a benches-clearing incident against San Francisco.

Manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Puig was in the process of appealing. Puig was suspended on Thursday after he took a swing at C Nick Hundley.

Puig is eligible to play during the appeal. He was not in the starting lineup on Friday, but Roberts said he will have Puig in the lineup in the next few games.

MIAMI MARLINS

RHP Jose Urena is appealing his six-game suspension for intentiona­lly hitting Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Braves with a pitch.

Urena was in uniform on Friday and manager Don Mattingly didn’t rule out using him this weekend against the Washington Nationals.

The suspension and an undisclose­d fine were announced on Thursday, a day after Urena hit Acuna on the left arm with his first pitch in a 5-2 loss in Atlanta. Urena is eligible to play until the appeal process is complete.

TEXAS RANGERS

CF Delino DeShields was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a fracture on the tip of his right middle finger.

DeShields got hurt in the series opener Thursday night when he was hit by a pitch on an attempted bunt.

It is the second time this season that DeShields has gone on the DL. He missed 20 games after a hamate bone fracture in his left hand the first week of the season.
