Kluber, Indians topple Red Sox

BOSTON — Greg Allen hit a tiebreakin­g homer right after Boston pitcher Rick Porcello was struck in the midsection by a line drive, and Corey Kluber tied for the major league wins lead as the Cleveland Indians beat the Red Sox 5-4 on Monday night.

Kluber (16-6) pitched into the seventh inning and matched Washington's Max Scherzer and the Yankees’ Luis Severino for the most victories in the majors. Michael Brantley and Melky Cabrera also homered to help the AL Central-leading Indians improve to 14-4 in August.

Xander Bogaerts had an early two-run single and an RBI single in the ninth for East-leading Boston. Ian Kinsler flied out with two runners on base, leaving the Red Sox with just their fifth loss in 22 games.

Kluber, who won his second Cy Young last season, gave up three runs and nine hits, striking out six and walking one in 61⁄3 innings. Porcello allowed five runs on three homers, fanning six and walking one over seven. He stayed in the game after being hit near the stomach by Yan Gomes’ liner.

ATHLETICS 9, RANGERS 0: Khris Davis hit a home run after letting a young fan from the Make-A-Wish Foundation sign his jersey, Ramon Laureano hit the first two homers of his career, and Oakland won at home.

GIANTS 2, METS 1 (13): Brandon Crawford's potential inning-ending popup in the 13th was dropped, giving San Francisco a road win.

WHITE SOX 8, TWINS 5: Lucas Giolito struck out six in six innings, and visiting Chicago spoiled Stephen Gonsalves’ major league debut by holding off Minnesota.

RAYS 1, ROYALS 0: Ryan Yarbrough helped extend Tampa Bay’s shutout streak to 23 innings, and visiting Kansas City gave up its only run via video replay.

BLUE JAYS 5, ORIOLES 3: Kendrys Morales homered twice, and Toronto improved to 8-0 at home against Baltimore this season.

BREWERS 5, REDS 2: Travis Shaw and Christian Yelich homered, and Milwaukee rallied for a home win.
