MARGARET TOWERS

-

1918-2018

Margaret Mary Towers, 99, passed away peacefully August 25, 2018 in Sugar Land, TX. Born December 14, 1918 in Port Glasglow, Scotland, Margaret immigrated to the U.S. as a child and proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. It was at a service dance that she met her future husband, Bill. They made their home in New Jersey. Upon Bill’s death she to moved to Houston with her mother and her sister, Elsie.

Margaret worshiped and taught at St. Francis de Sales where she was a parishioner for 40 years. She loved and served her St. Francis community where you could find her at mass every Saturday evening and working the Book Booth at the annual Parish Bazaar. “Mrs. Towers” will be remembered fondly by her students for her refined nature, addressing us as “Master” or “Miss” and drilling us on how to diagram sentences! She made us all feel more dignified than we actually were.

Margaret loved playing games, knitting, travel and tea! She and Elsie travelled with friends on many trips including back to her beloved homeland, Scotland.

She hosted a weekly knitting group for years that always ended with tea and sweets, and had an impressive collection of teapots and kilts.

Margaret will be missed by her many students, friends and church family.

Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm, with a Rosary at 7pm, Monday, September 3, 2018 at Earthman Bellaire. Funeral Mass will be held at 11am, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with her good friend and dominoes adversary, Msgr. Jack Dinkins presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Houston National Cemetery.

In memory of Margaret, please visit someone you know who is homebound or spending their final years alone or in a care facility.
