Sam Whitt passed away peacefully at home on September 4, 2018 in Houston, Texas surrounded by his family. Born in Washington, D.C. on June 23, 1946, Sam was raised in Carolina Beach, North Carolina and Washington, D.C., where he met the love of his life and future wife in grade school. He is best remembered for his witty sense of humor, story-telling, love of reading, passion for the arts, fishing, and sports.

Upon graduating from Mount St. Mary’s University, Sam was commission­ed into the United States Marine Corps. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Catholic University and was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar, and then entered active duty. Sam rose to the rank of Captain and received the Certificat­e of Commendati­on from the Commanding General. Following his military service, he entered private law practice in North Carolina. Sam spent the latter part of his career in the oil business, traveling around the world and living on four continents. He retired from Technip as Vice President Law.

Sam is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Teresa; his beloved daughters, Jennifer and Jessica; and sisters-in-law Mary Beth Cater and Ann Maddock. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Cramer Whitt Sr. and Linda D’Amico Whitt, and his mischievou­s Labrador Retriever, Rusty.

A visitation and rosary service at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston will be held Friday, September 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. to be followed by a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 10 at Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersvil­le, North Carolina. Honorary pallbearer­s are Robert Whitt, Joe Malloy, Marty Samson, John Dotson, Jeffrey Tribiano, and Sidney Maddock. Memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders.
