Alvin (Big Al) Workman, Jr. made his heavenly journey on Friday, August 31, 2018 in Woodlands, Texas. He gave his heart to Christ in his teenage years and was baptized at Southmore Baptist Church of Pasadena, TX. He was born on July 15, 1940 in Houston, TX to Alvin and Maxine Workman. He had been currently residing in the Huntsville area and was a retired City of Deer Park employee. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Nell Winegar and Mariedith Herron, and brother John Workman. He is survived by his loving wife Garlene of 54 years, sons Kevin Workman and Keith Workman (and wife Lisa), and the light of his life, his two granddaugh­ters, Erica and Erin Workman; sister-in-law Madeline Workman; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He was very involved in many charity organizati­ons and fundraiser­s for the communitie­s of Deer Park and Thomas Lake Road area. He was instrument­al in forming the “Santa Around Town” and the “Gift of Christmas” as a member of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Dept. He along with Brian Berry and Jack Fields also began the Deer Park Food Bank. Al received many awards for his dedication and good deeds from the local citizenry and organizati­ons. Everyone enjoyed being around “Big Al” because of his unique sense of humor and winning personalit­y. A memorial service for Alvin will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8th at 11am at the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home, 672 FM 980 Rd., Huntsville, TX 77320, with Rev. Barbara Campbell officiatin­g. Visitation and a meal will be provided immediatel­y following the service at the Thomas Lake Road Fire Dept., 46 Thomas Lake Rd. (FM 3454), Huntsville, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Thomas Lake Road Volunteer Fire Dept. or the charity of your choice.
