The 1971 Oakland A’s rank third at .688 (55-25). … Alex Bregman’s totals of 48 doubles, 30 homers, 10 steals and 83 walks (through Saturday) have been collective­ly matched only once in American League history: by Lou Gehrig in 1927. … Entering Sunday night’s game, Bregman had a remarkable .906 OPS after falling behind in the count 0-2.

Tigers (59-84) update: Prospect Christin Stewart, called up Sunday after Class AAA Toledo was eliminated from the Internatio­nal League playoffs, is expected to play regularly in left field for the rest of this season. He slashed .264/.364/.480 for the Mud Hens with 23 homers and 77 RBIs in 122 games. In his big league debut, he popped out as a pinch hitter to end Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Cardinals, which snapped Detroit’s four-game winning streak. … Nicholas Castellano­s is hitting an MLB-best .398 (53-for-133) versus lefthander­s. He’s hitting .261 (109-for-417) against righthande­rs. … Liriano’s win in last Tuesday’s start against the White Sox was his first since April 28.
