Brewers make up ground on Cubs

CHICAGO — Curtis Granderson homered, tripled and scored three runs, Lorenzo Cain added three hits, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 5-1 on Wednesday night to move within a game of the NL Central lead. Granderson also got three hits, and Mike Moustakas had a two-run single for Milwaukee, which took two of three from the first-place Cubs.

BRAVES 2, GIANTS 1: Pinch-hitter Tyler Flowers drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning, and Atlanta moved closer to clinching the NL East with a victory at San Francisco. The Giants lost their 11th straight.

NATIONALS 5, PHILLIES 1: Stephen Strasburg threw seven impressive innings, Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman and Juan Soto homered, and Washington won at Philadelph­ia to complete a three-game sweep.

RAYS 3, INDIANS 1: Blake Snell took a no-hit bid into the seventh and got his major league-leading 19th win, leading host Tampa Bay over Cleveland.

PIRATES 4, CARDINALS 3: Jameson Taillon won his fourth straight start with seven strong innings, and Jacob Stallings drove in three runs as Pittsburgh stopped host St. Louis’ three-game winning streak.

ATHLETICS 10, ORIOLES 0: Matt Olson homered during a 10-run third inning in which the first 11 batters reached base, and Oakland routed host Baltimore.

RED SOX 1, BLUE JAYS 0: Boston reached 100 wins for the first time since Ted Williams returned from World War II in the 1946 season, beating Toronto at Fenway Park as David Price won his sixth straight decision.

TWINS 3, YANKEES 1: Jake Odorizzi’s no-hit bid was broken up when Greg Bird hit a run-scoring double with one out in the eighth inning, and host Minnesota held on to defeat New York.

DODGERS 8, REDS 1: Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner had three RBIs each, and visiting Los Angeles avoided a season sweep by last-place Cincinnati.

PADRES 5, MARINERS 4: Austin Hedges and Hunter Renfroe hit long home runs, and San Diego won at host Seattle to finish off a two-game series sweep.

METS 13, MARLINS 0: Zack Wheeler allowed four hits and struck out seven over eight innings, and Jay Bruce hit a grand slam to help host New York jump on Miami following a five-hour, 35-minute rain delay.

ROCKIES 5, DIAMONDBAC­KS 4: DJ LeMahieu hit a two-run homer off Yoshihisa Hirano in the ninth, and NL West-leading Colorado defeated Arizona at home.

WHITE SOX 4, ROYALS 2: Tim Anderson hit a two-run homer in the 12th, and Chicago won at Kansas City.

ANGELS 8, RANGERS 1: No. 9 batter Francisco Arcia hit a pair of homers, and host Los Angeles beat Texas.
