Workers cleaning out Harvey debris in Buffalo Bayou discovered a man’s body floating Thursday morning near Marron Park in Second Ward.
Contractors with the Harris County Flood Control District discovered the body about 8:45 a.m. in waters in the 800 block of North York, near the North York Boat Launch, one of the employees said at the site.
Police are uncertain how long the body had been in the water, but Lt. J.C. Wood, with Houston Police Department’s Dive Team, estimated had been three to four days. The man showed no immediate signs of trauma, Wood added.
The lieutenant said it usually takes 24 to 48 hours for a body to float and that determining how long the man had been in the bayou was difficult to tell due to possible fluctuation of water temperature.
Myron Wanza, with the Flood Control District, said Thursday was the last day of clearing out Harvey debris from Buffalo Bayou. Everything is done, he said, except removing a nearby pile of trees.
The man’s body is the first discovered by flood control contractors since removal began in April, he added.
Houston police are investigating.
