Houston (2-0) update: The Cougars are coming off a 45-18 win over Arizona. This will be UH’s first true road game after beginning the season at crosstown rival Rice. … UH is 10-3 against Power Five opponents since 2011. … All-America DT and Heisman Trophy candidate Ed Oliver is off to a fast start with 18 tackles, four for loss, and six quarterback pressures. … WR Marquez Stevenson has three touchdowns and leads the nation with three plays of at least 50 yards. His 160.5 all-purpose yards per game is 15th nationally in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Overall, UH has 19 plays of at least 20 yards, third nationally. … UH is among 12 schools (including Texas Tech) with no sacks allowed through the first two weeks. … WR Raelon Singleton played a couple of snaps against Arizona but has been slowed by a hamstring injury. … S Garrett Davis had two interceptions against Arizona. … This is the fourth meeting with Tech since the breakup of the Southwest Conference after the 1995 season. UH leads the all-time series 18-12-1. Five turnovers doomed the Cougars in last year’s 27-24 loss at TDECU Stadium.

Texas Tech (1-1) update: Coach Kliff Kingsbury kept his quarterback plans under wraps during the week of preparation. McLane Carter, who won the job in camp, has been slowed by a high-ankle sprain suffered in the season-opening loss to Mississippi and was held out of last week’s 77-0 win over FCS school Lamar. Alan Bowman became the sixth true freshman in school history to start a game at quarterback. … The Red Raiders have won their past eight nonconference home games and 33 of the past 34 since 2002. … Tech has nine rushing touchdowns (seven coming against Lamar), tied with Oklahoma for most in the nation. … One area of concern for UH is Tech’s size at receiver with 6-6 T.J. Vasher, 6-5 Donta Thompson and 6-5 Antoine Wesley. … All-Big 12 LB Dakota Allen needs one tackle to reach 200 for his career. … RB Da’Leon Ward had 90 rushing yards and two touchdowns vs. Ole Miss. … Jah’Shawn Johnson, a preseason All-Big 12 selection, returned to practice this week after missing two games with a shoulder injury. Starting left tackle Travis Bruffy (ankle) is questionable.
