-

1922-2018

George Joseph Panfely, age 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2018. Born on April 24, 1922 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Margaret Marrone and Perry Panfely, he worked against all odds and obstacles to graduate from Siena College and completed his Masters of Science from The State University of New York.

He met the love of his life, Phyllis Louise McStravick and they married on December 31, 1953. His fondest memories were of his service as a Navigator in the Air Force, where he served in WW2 and Viet Nam. After the Air Force, George began a second career as a high school teacher and counselor. He was active and creative, working in his yard, growing orchids, making pinecone wreaths and birdhouses. He loved sports cars and ski boats. George and Phyllis, because they met in upstate New York in the Adirondack Mountains, spent many summers there, enjoying the lakes and hiking trails.

George is survived by his wife Phyllis, three children and their spouses: Charles and Judy; David and Liz; and Margaret (Pegi) and Bob. He has three wonderful grandchildren: Jeanne, Thomas and Elizabeth. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Belmont Village for their attentiveness and loving care. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 26 at 11:00 am at Earthman Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet Street in Bellaire with a light lunch reception immediately following at Earthman.
